Tourism in Ghansali

Tourism remains low-key, attracting pilgrims, trekkers and nature lovers who stop for Bhilangana River scenery and forested trails. The town provides basic stays and serves as a base for nearby treks, dams and cultural immersion without commercial overcrowding.

Location

Ghansali lies in Tehri Garhwal district’s Bhilangana block, Uttarakhand, at around 930–1,000 metres elevation where the Bhilangana and Bal Ganga rivers converge. Positioned about 20–25 km from New Tehri town, it connects via scenic roads towards Gangotri and Kedarnath circuits.

History

Ghansali developed as a traditional settlement along ancient trade and pilgrimage paths through Garhwal, with stone houses and terraced fields reflecting centuries-old pahari architecture. Its role grew post-Tehri Dam construction, linking it to modern road networks while preserving rural heritage.

Fairs and Festivals

The town celebrates Garhwali harvest festivals like Harela and Makar Sankranti with folk dances, temple pujas and community feasts by the river. Local Shivratri and Diwali feature processions, while seasonal yatra traffic adds vibrancy during Char Dham season.
